Building Something That Lasts — Lessons from the CISI Financial Planning Conference
I was delighted to both present at and help organise this year’s CISI Financial Planning Conference — an event that brings together financial planners from across the UK to share best practice, challenge ideas, and inspire one another to better serve our clients.
One of the highlights for me was hosting a “bar room chat” with Cameron Passmore of Canadian wealth management firm PWL Capital. Cameron and I have been guests on each other’s podcasts — you can listen to those conversations here: Cameron on my podcast and me on his.
Our discussion centred on what it really means to build something that lasts. In Cameron’s case, that meant helping transform PWL from a founder-led firm into an employee-owned business with a 100-year succession plan — creating continuity, shared purpose, and security for clients and colleagues alike.
But the principle goes far beyond running a financial planning firm. It’s the same foundation we help our clients build in their own lives: thinking long term, making values-based decisions, and creating a financial plan that can stand the test of time.
Whether you’re growing a business, planning for retirement, or simply seeking clarity about your future, the goal is the same — to build something lasting and meaningful, grounded in purpose and peace of mind.
